Why we need The English Claim of Right |
- The electorate in England are losing trust in the political system of the UK.
- There are concerns over the fairness of the electoral systems and electoral results.
- There is widespread and usually unjustified cynicism about the UK’s political national figures.
- There is general disengagement with the political system and often falling voter turnout.
- There is a growing belief that the other home nations of the UK get preferential treatment at England’s expense, both in the pattern of government expenditure and other major decisions.
- There is real anger at the sight of MPs from the other home nations voting though unpopular measures, that because they are devolved apply only to England.
- There is a growing English national consciousness which requires revised political institutions to express that national identity.
- There is increasing support both for an English Parliament and government to pass laws that suit England’s particular conditions and to develop policies aimed to benefit England.
